How I Met Your Father stars Hilary Duff as Sophie, with Kim Cattrall playing her older version, in a sitcom-style comedy that looks to bank on the widespread success How I Met Your Father had between 2005 and 2014 for CBS. Unfortunately, the series’ first 10-episode season did not get off to a fine start, as How I Met Your Father currently holds a 38% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a slightly better but still rotten 51% score from users.

How I Met Your Father will return to Hulu on January 24, 2023, with subsequent entries coming out in the following weeks, although no exact episode count was given for season 2. Last year, How I Met Your Father premiered with its first two episodes dropping on week one. The series obtained solid viewership in the first month after releasing, holding a top 5 spot across all platforms in the United States when it came to original content.

How I Met Your Father stars Christopher Lowell, Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsley, Tien Tran, and Suraj Sharma, alongside Duff and Cattrall, in a slightly bigger and more diverse cast than How I Met Your Mother. However, most mixed or negative reception has focused on the difficulties of producing a successful multi-camera sitcom in 2022. Proof of that is the show picking up two Primetime Emmys in scarcely populated categories reserved for multi-camera series, competing against just 3 other productions.

Despite generally negative reviews, nostalgia for How I Met Your Mother did manage to get fans of the show interested in the spinoff, so next year will prove decisive for Duff and company to make it to season 3. Overall, How I Met Your Father’s struggles don’t necessarily appear to come from its ability to incite nostalgia. Instead, its struggles are due to the lack of an audience for comedies that use a laugh track in contemporary television.

With shows like Ted Lasso and Schitt’s Creek winning over critics and audiences, it’s clear humor has steered away from the type of comedy How I Met Your Father tries to implement. Classic sitcoms get impressive ratings on every streaming platform, but it’s not as if Hulu didn’t have plenty of good content.

How I Met Your Father season 2 will premiere on January 24, 2023, on Hulu.
