Epic Games Store also gives away free games on a regular basis, however like Games with Gold, many of these are indie titles. This places the offering of PlayStation Plus at the forefront of gamers’ minds when they think about monthly free games, and for good reason. The PS Plus free games of January 2022 are now available to PS Plus subscribers, and this month looks to be a good one for fans. Included within the January offerings are Persona 5 Strikers, Deep Rock Galactic, and Dirt 5, which should appeal to a broad selection of PlayStation gamers by offering a little something for everyone.

With this great selection of games comes a headache for PlayStation owners, however. While fans may want to try out all three titles, finding storage space on the PlayStation 5 can be tricky at the best of times, and for those who own the digital edition, this is only further complicated by the inability to buy physical games. With three games to choose from, some gamers may need to miss out on one or two due to limited storage space or face freeing up some storage on their system by deleting games. Some of this month’s PS Plus free games are more storage-intensive than others, however, it all adds up to a pretty large collective download size.
Deep Rock Galactic 5.06 GB
The smallest download size of January’s PlayStation Plus offering is Deep Rock Galactic, making it one that may prove tempting to first-person shooter fans. In addition to the temptation surrounding its download size, Deep Rock Galactic has PS5 exclusive features to take its PlayStation port to the next level.
As may be expected, Deep Rock Galactic’s PS5 exclusive features center around the DualSense controller, which is proving to be one of the major features of next-generation gaming. Players can use the DualSense’s touchpad to control the game’s Terrain Scanner tool, while its built-in speakers can be used to receive orders from Mission Control. This works in a similar way to receiving radio chatter in Deathloop and helps to knock the immersion up that little bit.
Aside from its relatively small download size and exclusive DualSense features though, gamers may be interested in Deep Rock Galactic’s unique gameplay. Deep Rock Galactic is a co-op first-person shooter, featuring destructible, procedurally generated cave systems. This helps to make sure that no single playthrough of Deep Rock Galactic is the same as another, and ensures that players don’t know what may be waiting around the next corner.
As is the case with many co-op games, Deep Rock Galactic has a class system and the gameplay is centered around objective-driven missions. Players aren’t short of choices for co-op shooters in 2022, but Deep Rock Galactic is definitely one that PlayStation Plus subscribers should check out.
Persona 5 Strikers 16.95 GB
Next up, coming in with a 16.95 GB install size is Persona 5 Strikers, which is a great one for fans of action RPGs. Persona 5 Strikers is different from Persona 5 Royal, however, they do share a handful of similarities. Treading the thin line between being a spin-off and sequel to Persona 5, it is an interesting one for Persona 5 fans to check out, and possibly a must-play before the next Persona game releases. For this reason, though, it may be a difficult one to follow for gamers who are yet to play either Persona 5 or Persona 5 Royal so it may be missed by many.
Persona 5 Strikers is a sequel to Persona 5, making it one of the PS Plus games of January 2022 for a more niche audience. However, for those who it is of interest to, it may be the most exciting game of the lot. It is definitely one that is worth claiming, as the Persona series is one of the most popular in gaming at the moment, and for good reason.

Dirt 5 52.74 GB
By far the largest of the download sizes for January’s selection of PS Plus games is Dirt 5, with a 52.74 GB install size. While the game is over a year old now, Dirt 5 is still releasing new content to keep it fresh, and to compete with the likes of Forza Horizon 5. No doubt the amount of content in Dirt 5 will be contributing to its large install size, which may be what will make gamers hesitate before committing to downloading it. While it may take up the most space of all of this month’s free PS Plus games, it is worth it, especially to fans of racing games.
Collectively, January’s free PS Plus games amount to a total of 74.75 GB, which looks like a daunting total for gamers with limited storage. Gamers do have options when it comes to expanding the PlayStation 5’s SSD storage, and with the PlayStation 5 only coming with 667 GB of storage, this may be worth looking into. This month’s PS Plus free games take up almost 10% of all of the PS5’s storage, but included within the free offerings are some real gems. Whether PlayStation owners want to download all three games is their own decision, but doing so will take up a lot of space.
PS Plus subscribers typically get a handful of free games every month.
